Tom Foley, Albemarle County Executive, will release his recommended budget to the Board of Supervisors on Friday, February 25th. It will be available online Friday at Albemarle County residents can provide feedback on the budget at this public hearing. Sign-up sheets for speaking will be made available at 4:00 pm.

Albemarle County School parents have seen firsthand the damaging effect of the cuts in school funding the past three years. With reference to next year’s budget:
  1. All versions of the proposed state budget (House, Senate, Governor), now in conference committee, incur millions of dollars in cuts to Albemarle County Schools.
  2. Cuts under consideration by the state include funding for buses, Middle School arts and music teachers, textbooks, and more. Please note this does not mean Albemarle County will make those same cuts — when the state makes cuts to the standards of quality, ACPS has to determine how to fund our own standards of quality.
  3. Several members of the BOS have indicated they do not intend to raise the property tax, currently $0.742 per $100 of assessed value.
  4. Funding the proposed schools budget — which restores teaching positions cut last year and reduces the number of students in classrooms — requires use of Federal jobs bill money, which will not be available next year.

ACPS Parent Council encourages all parents to speak out on behalf of our students, our schools, and public education.
