Parent Council Members,

Thank you for a productive meeting November 11.

A PC Update will be developed following last night's meeting and forwarded to you as soon as possible. However, in the interim, I am attaching several documents that were discussed during the meeting for your reference:

1.  June Jenkins provides this link to connect to the ACPS Long Range Master Plan website:

2.  UVa Women's basketall School Nights document is attached.  Please note school codes have been updated, you should follow this document dated November 12, 2008.

3.  Cyber Safety Awareness Assembly = ALL are welcome

Albemarle High School will host a presentation on Cyber Safety Awareness
on November 19, 2008 as an assembly program. The assembly will run
during Period 8 from 2:30pm to 3:45pm.

Community representatives will help us understand the positives and
negatives of popular websites like Facebook, MySpace, Friendster,
Flickr, and Blogspot that are often used by high school students. They
will provide excellent tips for students and adults (parents and
teachers) about social networking sites and how they are often used by
high schools students with long term implications. They will also
provide safety tips about online predators and the role of law
enforcement.

Parents and community members are invited and encouraged to attend to
learn more about what your students may or may not already know. Those
who come to see the assembly will need to sign in at the school as a
visitor. For quick sign in, there will be a sign in sheet in the lobby
instead using the computer checkin procedure in the office.

Who*s Watching Charlottesville is a campaign to encourage
Charlottesville area residents to consider the question, Who is really
watching us online? because there is a false sense of security and
anonymity on the Internet. This initiative seeks to educate people so
they understand that the Web is an incredible community with much to
offer, but its many benefits do not come without risks.

Who*s Watching Charlottesville is a community partnership of:
Albemarle County Government and the Albemarle County Schools
Charlottesville City Government and the Charlottesville City Schools
Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce
Piedmont Virginia Community College
The University of Virginia and The UVA Community Credit Union
